NEWS

In April, Willie Walsh, CEO British Airways, announced a £500,000 donation to UNICEF through the airline's Change For Good programme that is being used to build eleven schools (six for girls, five for boys) in earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan.

The announcement was made at a BA lunchtime event (Pakistan Update) at the Waterside Theatre, attended by many BA employees and family members showing support and interest for the group's work. Also attending were Adam Khan (A1 Racing Driver) and Murtz (ZeeMuzic TV Presenter), and an official from the Pakistan High Commission.

Willie Walsh gave an overview of the support given by British Airways to the relief effort.

Khalid Chaudhary (a BA Manager representing Giving Hope) gave a speech portraying personal experiences of visiting affected areas, and also spoke about the fund-raising efforts of BA staff.

Dan Toole, UNICEF's Director of Emergency Programmes, focused on the reconstruction work being carried out in Pakistan and other areas affected by the earthquake. UNICEF is the main recipient of corporate donations to relief efforts through the British Airways Change for Good programme.
